Here are 7 tips you have to take into consideration when thinking about creating great wooden toys for your kinds.
1. Choose All Natural Materials
So many of the toys manufactured today are made from cheap plastic and even recycled garbage. There really is no need to make even more. What makes handmade toys so wonderful is that they are constructed using on natural materials such as: wooden, fabric, stone, clay, silk, cotton, etc.
Toys that are made using these natural materials always look and even feel better and they are relatively easy and simple to make. It is great to work with wood or natural fabric and it is a safer option for people of all ages.
2. Opt for Designs that are Original Toy Designs
Before you begin the project always choose the design carefully. By doing so you will find that it will provide you with some inspiration. Making a toy like this is really impressive and you do not have to stick to the design completely; use it to give yourself ideas. The Internet is a great place to find some really great toys and to help you choose the toy that you want to make.
3. Don’t Bite off More than You can Chew
Do not choose a toy that is particularly complicated but rather go with something a little simpler. While there is nothing wrong with choosing a more complex toy it will naturally require more skill and precision on your part. Simple toys do not require as much skill and therefore can be made by almost anyone who has some patience and is willing to practice. If you are a beginner rather choose a simple design. Toys that are made from fabric or plush material are also great for the beginner.
4. Use Paper First
Before you invest in what might turn out to be pricey materials try making a model of the toy using regular paper. Naturally there are some toys that make this impossible, such as plush or wooden carved toys. You might be surprised to know that those with different parts or which use some mechanics are usually the ones that you will be able to model using paper. This is sort of rehearsal before beginning and it will give you a general idea of what the finished product will look like.
Bear in mind that making the toy well out of paper does not necessarily mean that you will do so when you are busy with the real thing.
5. Painting the Finished Toy
Sometimes it is preferable to leave the toy in the original color of the material that you used. If you’ve made an old-fashioned type of wooden toy this is especially so. However the majority of toys look best when painted. If the design doesn’t suggest certain colors then use your own imagination. You will be able to get a lot of ideas when you view the designs and toys available online.
6. Cams and Cranks
If you really want to impress consider making something that uses mechanical parts with gears. Toys that make do with cams and cranks can really impress the kids and are more enjoyable than toys without these features. It is not that difficult either. Take a look at some great cam toys that you can make.
Invariably wood is the material used for making handmade cam and crank toys but sometimes there are metal components. It is important that you do not feel intimidated when it comes to trying out different materials and you might even use some parts of old, broken toys, such as plastic wheels which can save you money when renewed for a new toy.
7. Safety is Key
Of course it is necessary to consider a few safety tips. Obviously you need to exercise some degree of care but you might not know exactly how. Some toys contain fake blood in them and these can be really great fun provided that the blood is not real!
Always err on the side of caution when you work with woodworking tools and other sharp objects like needles if you are working with fabric. Most importantly of all, the toy you make should also be safe for the child who will play with it.

Choosing furniture is not always easy. It’s certainly likely to be a very personal task. A piece of furniture that’s right for your family home may not be right for everyone. So how should you go about choosing furniture that meets your needs?
There are a number of different approaches that you might look to take. Some people like to choose items that will match the current colour scheme that they’ve selected. This can work well, especially if you’re confident that you intend on sticking with the same colours for years to come.
But what if you like to make regular changes to the appearance of your home? In this case, it’s likely that you’ll want a bit more flexibility when it comes to your furniture choices too. You won’t want to select something that simply won’t look good if you paint the walls a new colour, or opt for some different wallpaper.
You can look to overcome such problems by choosing wooden furniture. As well as being solid and built to last, wooden furniture has the advantage of looking rather timeless. It tends to age well and rarely looks out of place in any room. While metallic, glass or even plastic alternatives may look modern, it’s unlikely that they will remain fashionable in years to come.
You don’t have this problem with wood. If you make the right choices then you’ll have a wardrobe, cabinet or table that can last you for years to come. It won’t matter if you do change the colour scheme in your home, or even if you look to move to a completely different house.
It will also work well with other items in your home, including soft furnishings and accessories. There are plenty of options available when you come to buy any item of furniture. Shopping online can be a good approach if you want to compare numerous products and secure a better deal.
Specialist internet furniture retailers are often very competitive in terms of pricing. This is because they tend to have low overheads. Don’t forget to see if they have any discount vouchers available too. Such vouchers will allow you to pick up stylish furniture for less.

A roller blinds is made up of a series of strips (or sheets) which are coupled in tongue and groove edges, so are perfectly fitted to close them. The slats can be wood, steel, plastic, wood and aluminum or PVC and aluminum. Also the profile is metal or aluminum, filled with a foam that has a role both thermal and acoustic insulation. The coupling system between the slats is formed by a series of movable hooks that the cross and interlock. There are other models in that instead of hooks or plates are the same profile of the slats which achieves the unity and coordination among them.
Replacing the ribbon
- If the tape shows signs of wear in areas of greater use should be replaced before it breaks, because if it breaks suddenly can cause damage to their own shade.
- To replace the tape is to accede to the box located above the window, where the winding roller suspended from both ends, one of which is the pulley which winds the tape.
- The first step towards replacing the tape is to remove the front panel, usually fixed with screws or just snapped. To do this, loosen the screws holding or acting whichever is the restraint. The panel rose to evict their settlement and then separate.
- Next, the shade is raised up by pulling the piece of tape that is left in good condition. After blocking, so that the slats do not slump by either side, remove broken or damaged tape.
- It is very possible that this operation will have to ask for help, especially if the window overlooks the street.
- The old tape is removed from disengaging from the pulley, typically you have to loosen a lag, but in some cases is retained by a fastening that prevents you get out of an existing groove in the same pulley.
- Since the rollout, once wound, prevents the operation to undo the knot will have to use a wrench or screwdriver tip to assist in loosening parrot.
Place new tape
- Pass the new tape through the crack, which has two small sliding rollers located at the bottom of the box. The rollers may also be damaged: easily replaced because they are only held by screws.
- The film is set in the pulley after it spun two laps of security. At this point you can remove (or rather, have removed) the blinds slats that block, which is lowered so as to wrap the new tape.
- The other end of the tape is fixed on the winding drive, located below, after being removed from its housing. Generally, this album is often embedded in the wall to remove just loosen two screws that hold the shield that is visible on the wall.
- Remove the old belt by loosening the fastener that holds the disk section and then roll the new tape through the device that is equipped with the winding element.
- The winding device has ‘loaded’. This is rotated by hand so that the spring that is inside is under tension. Then a hole an inch from the end of the tape, the fastener passes and then the tape is wound or compressed on the disc.
- Once this operation, keeping the disc firmly in place, replace the unit winding in the building, fixing it properly.
- This last operation setting must be done carefully, since the very cutting edge of the disk can hurt your hands. For this reason it is better to ask for help when trying to load the spring, keeping the tape winding.
Replacement hooks
- The coupling to the roll of hemp are usually interwoven with metallic threads and have a hook that attaches to the head of the last clip of the shade.
- This kind of tape sticks to the roll if it is wood, or screws into the right place if it is metal. More often break the tape next to the hook, more rarely; the two are broken at once.
- For replacement, it is essential always remove tapes for attaching the roller. If the hook is in good condition, just change the tape. If the hook was broken, it is best to take this opportunity to also change the tape.
- The new lock is placed back in the same way that the old, taking care of its length corresponds to that of others. If it were slightly longer or shorter, the burden of the blinds would be unevenly distributed, which could cause congestion or even breaks.
- If due to a sudden tear would break all the clips, you will have to proceeding with the collection of tape before rolling up the roller blinds, because the device draws winding the tape entirely by the action of its spring.
- This operation will be done with the help of another person for power.
